How to Make a Cookie Lollipop

What will draw the kids in even faster than a fresh baked cookie right out of the oven? A fresh baked cookie lollipop! Cookies on sticks have become very popular. When done in a smaller version with a small stick, they can be made to look like lollipops.

To make cookie lollipops, start by baking up your favorite recipe for cookies. You will want a cookie like a sugar cookie so that you can cut shapes out. Stars, hearts, circles and other simple shapes work best. Try to avoid using heavy cookie batters like chocolate chip, oatmeal, or anything with big chunks in them. You can use those types of cookies, but the heavier the batter, the more likely the cookie will fall off the stick.

You will need to purchase lollipop sticks from a craft store. They are very inexpensive and are found in the candy-making aisle. You will see them next to the candy molds. Grab a few packs so you have extras for next time you want to make them.

The whole key to the lollipop cookie is to insert the stick into raw dough only about halfway through the cookie. If you don’t insert the stick when the batter is raw, you’ll never get it in without breaking the cookie. And if you don’t insert it at least halfway in, you’ll risk the cookie falling off the stick. Make sure it’s sturdy and that the stick is not poking out of the batter anywhere. If your cookies are too thin, you may have a problem with cracking and breakage when you try to lift them.

Bake your cookies as your recipe dictates. You don’t have to do anything different. But you will want the cookie sheet to be greased so you won’t have to pry the cookies off the pan and risk breaking them. After the cookies have baked, resist the urge to pick them up by the stick while they are cooling. You will need to let them cool completely so they harden enough to form around the stick.

Once cookies are cool, you can decorate them by dipping them in melted chocolate and sprinkles or frosting them and dusting them with sanding sugar. If you want to add any candy elements to the frosting, you can do it after the cookies are cooled.

Have fun trying out different recipes and different shapes. You could create a cookie bouquet for any holiday such as New Years, birthday parties, or make heart-shaped lollipops for Valentine's Day cookies. Just be sure that you don’t roll your cookies too thin or you will have a hard time getting the lollipop sticks to stay in the cut-outs before and after baking.

When the pops are all cooled and decorated, get some florist foam or a Styrofoam block and stick the cookies into it. Then you can cover the Styrofoam with a cloth or bandana and insert them into a clean flowerpot and give a cookie flower bouquet. Once they are anchored in the foam they won’t move. You can even wrap the basket in clear cellophane so that they can be transported without getting damaged. Tie a bright ribbon and a tag on and you’ve got yourself a lovely homemade cookie lollipop bouquet. It doesn’t take much time and is much cheaper to do than buying a cookie bouquet.

Flower Shaped Cookies are the Perfect Dessert for a Garden Party

flower_cookiesIf you’re throwing a garden party for the girls or for a child’s birthday party, bake up a batch of flower cookies for dessert time. Not only will they be tasty, but they’ll also be delightful to look at. All you really need to make them yourself is a set of floral cookie cutters. You can find them online or at cooking stores. Then, break out the store bought cookie dough and start rolling.

Flavorful flowers will look garden-fresh and also eliminate the need for any other decorations. You’ve got your party done. Just add some finger sandwiches and a few pots of tea and you can sit down and relax, too.

Here are some recipes to get your creativity flowing.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups butter, softened
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter flavored extract
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Cream margarine and sugar. Add eggs and flavorings and mix well. Stir flour, baking powder, and salt together. Add to batter and mix well.
  2. CHILL 3-4 hours or overnight before using.
  3. Roll cookies out approximately 1/4 inch thick and insert cookie sticks at least 1/3 to 1/2 way into cookie.
  4. Bake cookies at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 8-10 minutes. This dough keeps well in a covered container in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks.
  5. Decorate as desired. Display 3-7 cookies in a 6 inch clay pot (depending on size of cookie). Weigh pot down with dried beans and cut a circle of Styrofoam to fit snugly into top. Add ribbons and enjoy.

Whether you start from scratch or use rolled cookie dough from the store, you can create flower cut out cookies that look adorable on a garden table. Use them instead of real flowers and you’ll save yourself money while your table looks great. Send some cookies home with the guests so they can enjoy your party long after they’ve gone home.

Nothing is more festive than home-baked cookies. So for your next party, start early and make a little extra time for cookie baking. You’ll be so glad you did when you see the looks on your guests’ faces.

Once you've perfected flower shaped cookies, next task is making flower cupcakes!

Sweet Snowmen Bouquet of CookiesAs seen on the Today Show 12/14/2010Today was a very exciting morning for us here at Gourmet Cookie Bouquets. We were absolutely thrilled to have some of our cookie bouquets showcased on Kathie Lee and Hoda's fourth hour segment of the Today Show. It was actually their co-host, Sara Haines who went into the detail of how much she adored our cookie bouquets! It was so fun to see that our cookies are enjoyed all over the states and even by celebrities!

On their show, they highlighted two of our very popular holiday bouquets. The first was the "Sweet Snowmen Bouquet of Cookies". These are delicious iced cookies decorated as cute, assorted snowmen with darling scarves on. In the middle it has a special cookie with "Happy Holidays" iced onto it. All of the cookie bouquets come in sets of either 5, 7, 9, or 12 cookies. Each set varies in price, however the set of 5 cookies starts at $29.95 but you can't put a prize on a truly unique holiday gift, now can you?

Season's Greetings Cookie BouquetThe next gift basket that they featured on the Today Show, was the "Season's Greetings Bouquet". Have Fresh Baked Cookies Delivered Right to Their Door

Gourmet Cookie TrayWhen the doorbell rings and a basket of cookies is waiting in the hands of a delivery man, the whole day suddenly starts to brighten up. Everyone loves to get cookies and to have them delivered to your door is even better. If you want to put a sparkle into someone’s day, send a cookie bouquet or basket! They’re perfect for birthdays, congratulations, retirements, engagements, thank yous, and more. In fact, there’s really no wrong time to send a batch of cookies.

Know the company you are selecting to send your cookies.  Check out how long the company has been in business? Have they got a customer service department you can actually speak to, or is the whole operation entirely online with no helpline whatsoever? Go for a company who will pick up the phone should something go wrong. It’s fine to order online; just know that there is a number there if you need it.

How will your cookies be packaged? Are they arriving in the middle of August in a plain brown box? After they’ve sat in a hot warehouse and delivery truck, your cookies will be melted goop by the time your recipient opens them. So see if they deliver locally or in a cooler packed with dry ice. If you can’t get an answer from their web site, call the customer service number and find out before you place your order.

See how fast the company ships. Is there a two-day lag period on any order? If you need the cookies to arrive tomorrow for your sister’s birthday, don’t go with a company that won’t promise overnight delivery. Pay a little more and choose a company who will guarantee your delivery on the day you need it.

Is there a quality guarantee? What if your recipient opens a box of crumbs or the cookies are spoiled? Is there a way to get your money back or get a replacement batch sent out? Most businesses who plan to stay in the cookie delivery business know what they are doing and you’ll be happy with your delivery. But there’s always that one chance that something might not be right. What is the guarantee you can hold them to?

Finally, decide which type of cookies you’d like to send and the price range you want to shop in. Most company web sites allow you to browse by price range. That way you don’t end up falling in love with a cookie basket that’s twice what you wanted to spend. You’ll filter your results by the range you can afford and only see those options.

Sending cookies is a joyful task. See about sending rose cookies on sticks or a big tin full of individually wrapped cookies which will last longer and the recipient will have more time to eat. Ask about nut products used in case your recipient has allergies and make sure that information is included with the delivery. And check with any hospital staff before you send food baskets to a hospital floor. Most times it’s fine, but depending on the person’s illness, they may not be able to receive them.
